BSN INTER VARSITY SOCIAL VENTURE CHALLENGE WORKSHOP

 


2 Day Workshop for participating students


Kuala Lumpur, 10 October 2012 
– Prelude to the BSN Inter Varsity Social Venture Challenge (SVC) finals to be held in November, shortlisted 32 participants comprising of 8 groups of 38 submissions received from Institutes of Higher Learning have been invited to the 2 Day SVC Workshop starting from 7 – 8 October 2012.  The workshop was held at Cyberview Lodge & Spa Resort, Cyberjaya. 

SVC, which saw its inauguration in 2010 is into its third year where students from universities, colleges and polytechnic institutions can participate and propose ideas that are commercially viable and sustainable towards leveraging benefits for the community. This program is aimed towards encouraging the students to be creative and to inculcate entrepreneurial skills by putting forward viable and sustainable business plans incorporating products and services from both the social impact with an income generating perspective.

The 2 Day Workshop conducted by Chandran Nair, the Chief Judge of this competition who is also the Chief Executive of Global Institute for Tomorrow (GIFT), Hong Kong. The workshop aims to expose students to global issues at the same time relating them to social investing in line with the aim and expectations of this competition.

In its effort to enhance this competition, BSN this year, has invited YBhg Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir as its patron whereby during the 2 day workshop, she shared her ideas and insights with the workshop participants. It is hoped that this interaction will be of great benefit to the participants to have a better understanding of the competition’s expectation as a whole. Also during this workshop, out of the 8 groups, the judges will shortlist 6 groups to vie in the finals.

SVC supported by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), gives away prizes amounting to RM100,000 to the winning teams. Starting this year, as incentive, BSN is granting a seed capital of RM10,000 to the grand winner to kick off their winning business plan.
