BSN Raised RM 100,000 for IJN Foundation

Fund Will Help Patients under the Patient Assistance Programme

Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2014 -  Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) today handed over     RM 100,000 raised from its Putrajaya Night Marathon (PNM) to IJN Foundation. BSN’s Chairman, Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah handed over the cheque of RM 100,000 to the foundation’s Chairperson, Toh Puan Dato’ Seri Dr. Hajjah Aishah Ong at a ceremony held at the National Heart Institute, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

IJN Foundation is a charity organisation, established in 1995 and is affiliated with the National Heart Institute (IJN).

BSN PNM which was held last October 2013 named IJN Foundation as the official beneficiary for the marathon’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 10 km Corporate Run.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tan Sri Abu Bakar said that being a Community Bank, BSN will continue to seek various platforms to expand the banks initiatives in helping those in need.

“We hope that this contribution will help lessen the burden of heart patients to seek heart related medical treatments and give them a chance of leading a healthier life. The foundation is a reputable NGO that since its establishment, have focused on contributing towards helping people with heart ailments and we are happy to be part of such a worthy cause,” said Abu Bakar.

The Chairman of BSN also mentioned that the bank is keen on continuing its CSR efforts through PNM as the marathon is a great avenue to be close to the community.

The said fund will be used to assist the surgery and treatment of needy heart patients at IJN under the foundation’s Patient Assistance Programme. For the year 2013, the foundation disbursed more than RM2.7 million to assist the surgery and treatment cost of 86 patients.  Out of this number, 43 were pediatric patients.

“We are happy to receive BSN’s visit today and IJN Foundation is indeed very thankful for their generous contribution.  It is also very meaningful to us as this makes a significant difference to the lives of the heart patients here. We urge other corporates to support our mission as what BSN did.  Heart surgery cost does not come cheap and we at the foundation have to ensure that funds are made available when the need arise,” said Toh Puan Dato’ Seri Dr. Hajjah Aishah Ong,

Adding up, Toh Puan Aishah also said, the amount contributed from BSN is expected to assist at least 3 to 5 patients. “Although the number of patients may not seem many, but what matters is how that particular patient can benefit from the contribution. Today, BSN was able to provide some lucky patients medical treatments for a chance towards a better quality of life,” said Toh Puan Aishah.

During the visit to the Pediatric Ward of IJN, BSN provided the pediatric patients with special gifts and entertainment.

BSN is one of Malaysia’s largest banks with 398 branches and more than 5,000 network of Registered Banking Agents (EBB) nationwide (as of November 2013). BSN was the title sponsor for the internationally recognised Putrajaya Night Marathon for 3 consecutive years. Last year, BSN PNM attracted 12,000 participations from all over the globe.
