8.9 Million TNB customers can now enjoy the convenience of paying bills at EBB


KUALA LUMPUR, 29 October 2014 - Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) today collaborates with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to be the direct channel partner to offer even more convenient locations for bill payments via BSN’s nationwide network of Registered Banking Agents (EBB).

The partnership will immediately see TNB’s bill payments made available at all 5,175 EBB BSN premises nationwide. This greatly enhances the ways for TNB customers to conduct TNB bill payments as EBB BSN will provide a faster and more convenient transaction.

Today's event, conducted at the GTower Hotel, Kuala Lumpur signified the collaboration represented by Tuan Haji Amir Mahmod bin Abdullah, General Manager (Revenue Management) Customer Service, Distribution Division TNB on behalf of Puan Hajah Ir. Kamaliah binti Abd Kadir, Senior General Manager (Customer Service), Distribution Division, TNB and Encik Yunos Abd Ghani, Deputy Chief Executive of BSN; witnessed by Dato’ Mearia Hamzah, Senior Vice President/Head of Community Banking BSN and Puan Noraini Shaarani, Asistant General Manager (Service Development & Marketing) Customer Service Department, Distribution Division TNB.

At the ceremony, Encik Yunos commented, "Since its inception in 2012 till 22 October 2014, BSN’s 5,175 EBB have recorded 27.38 million transactions amounting to more than RM 2.27 billion.”

"BSN is proud to be given the opportunity to provide TNB with a channel for the convenience of their customers and further hopes that this synergy will benefit the customers of both parties, especially those who are living in rural areas," he said.

TNB Bill payment transactions will be conducted through the terminal Point-of-Sale (POS) that allows digital transactions to be completed in real-time.  Transactions made through EBB channels are safe and cost effective, giving customers’ peace of mind-just like when conducting payments at all TNB authorized outlets.

According to Tuan Haji Amir Mahmod bin Abdullah, “The collaboration between TNB and BSN in providing alternative payment channel is not new as it allows TNB customers to pay their electricity bills anytime, anywhere. We at TNB, appreciate BSN’s effort and initiative towards providing an alternative payment channel for Malaysian community especially those in rural areas.  To further support this initiative, we would be joining BSN’s activities like Gerak Gempur Mega, Kempen Kesedaran EBB and Promosi Lokasi EBB meeting on-ground staff and customers throughout Peninsular of Malaysia.  We would like to extend our credit to BSN for this collaboration effort through all EBB’s exciting activities as per planned.”

EBB BSN is an innovation by BSN that is not merely providing convenience, but it is also environmentally friendly. This is because EBB BSN acts like a mini branch operating in retail premises using a BSN POS machine. The POS machines will only print a receipt for customer’s record and it does not use electricity. At the same time, EBB BSN premises are located nearby residences and thereby reducing the carbon footprint resulting from the long journeys.
