Kuala Lumpur, 6 December 2014 - Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) celebrated its 40th anniversary and unveiled its exclusive 40th anniversary logo at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This ceremony with a pinch of pomp and splendour was attended by BSN Board Members, Management, and Staff.

BSN Chairman, Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah in his opening address reiterated the humble beginning of BSN on 1 December 1974 under the BSN Act 1974 and its official launch on 5 December 1974 by the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, the second Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Entering its 40th year since its inception, BSN stands ahead in providing the best service and products relevant to the demands and lifestyle of its customers. Amongst its innovative products include the BSN Visa Debit payWave Card with the 5-in-1 applications that meets the requirement and needs of today's consumers. Moreover, BSN is also synonymous with its added value savings product namely the Premium Savings Certificate or Sijil Simpanan Premium (SSP) and other products such as Loans, Wealth Management and Micro Finance.

Besides offering a variety of products, and in line with its aim to provide credible customer service, BSN have moved towards technological development by using the i-QMS system, which shortens the waiting time for customers at the counter, besides electronic display of BSN latest products, services and campaigns.

Likewise, continuous trainings and courses are also given to staff as to enable them to keep abreast with changes in the banking industry. BSN staff is the key asset and contributor to its success today. Starting with 632 employees in 1976, BSN now has more than 6,900 employees, 401 branches and over 5,200 Ejen Bank Berdaftar (EBB), that offers banking access to communities in its own neighbourhood. Through this network, BSN has ensured the government’s financial inclusion is carried out efficiently. Through EBB alone, over 95% of 837 districts nationwide have access to this banking facility. This extensive banking facility which encompasses urban, rural and remote areas is BSN’s contribution to the community and the country.

"Tonight, BSN also honours its employees who have been with BSN for 35 to 40 years. For their service and unequivocal loyalty, 113 employees are awarded with exclusive souvenirs as a token of appreciation of their service with BSN," added Abu Bakar.

Now, having its main office at Wisma BSN, Jalan Ampang, BSN has braved many challenges during its infancy as a bank that had only few savings schemes. Nonetheless, today it is a proud bearer of a wide range of products and services. Besides this, in parallel to the government’s mandate to strengthen the savings habit among Malaysians, BSN continues to broaden its role by providing access and multi-channel banking facilities to all segments of the community in Malaysia.

In culmination of the 40th anniversary celebration, BSN Chief Executive, Datuk Adinan Maning unveiled the commemorative BSN 40th Anniversary logo to all present. The logo rationale is aligned with its motto, "40 Years of Banking Excellence". This logo takes on a fresh and modern approach to represent a revolutionised BSN after 40 years. The multi-faceted logo structure reflects BSN as a local financial institution that offers a wide range of banking services, whilst the striking colour of the logo signifies the multiracial customers that BSN serves. This gives an indication that BSN will remain committed to providing banking access, while continuing to provide the best services to all segments of the society.
