BSN brings teal power to Le Tour de Langkawi’s finish line

BSN – a first-time sponsor of the Sprint Champion Jersey, joins celebration as Le Tour de Langkawi successfully concludes in Melaka


Melaka, 2 March 2016 – Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN)’s team, led by Chairman Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah, gathered with thousands of cycling fans to witness the conclusion of Le Tour de Langkawi here today. The 21st edition of Asia’s top road cycling race, held from 24 February to 2 March 2016, concluded at Dataran Pahlawan in Melaka, after Stage 8 from Batu Pahat to Melaka. Tan Sri Abu Bakar welcomed the cyclists and race crew at the finish line, in an event graced by the Chief Minister of Melaka Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

Over the eight stages of the competition across eight states and two federal territories, BSN sponsored teal jerseys for the daily Sprint Champions. In Melaka, Tan Sri Abu Bakar presented the teal jersey to the Sprint Champion for Stage 8, Andrea Guardini of Astana Pro Team from Italy. He proved himself the sprint king for this year’s competition, winning 7 of the 8 teal jerseys.

“We’re pleased to be part of this renowned race for the first time this year. Le Tour de Langkawi is popular across Malaysia and well-known internationally, so this has been a great opportunity to connect with Malaysian fans in a meaningful way. Our corporate colour teal not only represents trustworthiness and reliability in this race, but also speed. So we are conveying BSN’s renewed sprit of being quick and forward looking, and yet always aware of our foundation of trust and reliability that is very important to all Malaysians,” Tan Sri Abu Bakar said.

“Also, as the race is a key highlight in Malaysia’s sporting calendar, we’re glad to support an event that generates revenue for Malaysians and showcases our cities and natural beauty to an international audience. This reflects our aim to offer a better life within the reach of Malaysians,” Tan Sri Abu Bakar added.

Stage 2: Sungai Petani to Georgetown - Wang Meiyin of China from Hengxiang Cycling Team

Stage 3: Kulim to Kuala Kangsar - Andrea Guardini of Italy from Astana Pro Team

Stage 4: Ipoh to Cameron Highlands - Andrea Guardini of Italy from Astana Pro Team

Stage 5: Tapah to Kuala Lumpur - Andrea Guardini of Italy from Astana Pro Team

Stage 6: Putrajaya to Rembau - Andrea Guardini of Italy from Astana Pro Team

Stage 7: Seremban to Parit Sulong - Andrea Guardini of Italy from Astana Pro Team

Stage 8: Batu Pahat to Melaka - Andrea Guardini of Italy from Astana Pro Team

“Over the eight days, it has been very meaningful to us to indirectly conduct our own informal tour across Peninsular Malaysia through the pit stop participation. We had further opportunities to strengthen connections with our customers, banking agents, school children and many other Malaysians from all walks of life,” Tan Sri Abu Bakar concluded.
